DRIFT PT. 3 | Sunday, August 20th
Pastor Wes Morris Hebrews 2:1 (NLT) We must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. Daniel 1:3-8 (NIV) Then the king ordered some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility— young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service. 6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego. 8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. CULTURAL DRIFT I. LET’S BE FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH. John 1:14 (NIV) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. II. LET’S NOT SWERVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. Ephesians 5:3 (GNT) Since you are God's people, it is not right that any matters of sexual immorality or indecency or greed should even be mentioned among you. Nor is it fitting for you to use language which is obscene, profane, or vulgar. Rather you should give thanks to God. I Corinthians 6:9-11 (NLT) Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. III. LET’S NOT FEAR PERSECUTION. John 15:20 (NIV) Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. II Timothy 3:12 (ESV) Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. IV. LET’S LIVE IN A WAY THAT HONORS GOD I Corinthians 6:19-20 (GNT) Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.
