Find the Seed: God’s Word
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”
1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV
Prepare the Soil: Devotional & Prayer
Some people may be intimidated with the topic of witnessing. How do we do it? It can be scary being real and vulnerable with someone and risk rejection. We must be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks us about our reason for the hope we have. When we have light and joy people will notice. They may be searching for answers and seeking God and want to have what you have. It also says to do this with gentleness and respect. Be mindful of the feelings and experiences of the person you are sharing with. They are going through different circumstances than you are.
So how we do we prepare? In his book The Purpose Driven Life, Pastor Rick Warren discusses witnessing. Here are the steps he shares to help develop an answer to give to others:
Your Life Message
- Your Testimony-the story of how you began a relationship with Jesus.
- Your Life Lessons- the most important lessons God has taught you.
- Your Godly passions- the issues God shaped you to care about most.
- The Good News- the message of salvation
Here are his tips on how to create your testimony.
- What your life was like before you met Jesus.
- How you realize you needed Jesus.
- How you committed your life to Jesus
- The difference Jesus has made in your life.
It takes honesty and some time to develop this. Be concise- it can be short and sweet, something you can share in 5 or 10 minutes. Your story may plant some seeds that can make an eternal difference to someone’s soul. Don’t forget to be bold!
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are so amazing! You set up divine appointments with people who need it just at the right time. Please help me to seriously think about how you changed my life and made my heart new. I know there are others who need to hear of your healing love. I pray for you to bring someone into my life who needs your salvation. Use me God anyway you can. Please give me the presence of your Holy Spirit, foresight, courage, boldness and discernment when it’s time to share my life message. Prepare our hearts to your leading and your blessings. Help me to be your ambassador. Hold me in your hands every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
