Find the Seed: God’s Word
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Prepare the Soil: Devotional & Prayer
Do you as a believer in Jesus Christ realize how important your witness is to others around you? Every day people are watching. So why do we witness either out loud to others or by our example? Luke 19:10 NIV says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Mark 10:45 says “45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus Christ himself is the very reason we witness. 1 John 5:11-12 gives us a very simple concept of faith- a foundation for witnessing. “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
Jesus himself tell his followers in Acts 1:8 that they are his witnesses. He wants us to come along side him and help him complete his kingdom work. He says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” We are his witnesses to the ends of the earth. How amazing, how empowering is that? Being a witness involves staying in His Light! 1 John 1:6-7 NIV says, “If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
We ourselves have to walk in his light so we can be the light to others in this world. Matthew 5:16-17 NIV says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” It’s for His glory! When we are the light to others, it helps our spiritual growth, leads us to God’s Word, and teaches us to depend on Him. Let us always be aware of what we say, of how we do things, of how we live. Let us walk in His Light and lead the way for others who are still in darkness. Be light!
Prayer: Gracious Lord Jesus, You are so powerful and so mighty. Help me every day to be bold for you. You asked us to be witnesses for you. Help me to notice what others are going through around me and to reach out in your name. Forgive me for the darkness that sometimes plagues me. Only by staying close to you and standing on your promises in Your Word can I stay in the light. Use me, oh Lord, to be light to others so they can see your glory. In your name we pray, AMEN.
